RFK is in the headlines at the moment proudly displaying his deep ignorance about autism and promoting his cockamamie ideas for autism research based on his intense lack of knowledge on the topic.
But he is not the first to get things so badly wrong – historically there is a lot of poor quality research happening around autism – and by people who have dedicated their life to the topic. And who should know better.
One such was the Spectrum 10K research propesed by Simon Baron-Cohen.
This was the post I wrote at the time – and – despite the references to a now dead research proposal – yes – autistics were finally listened to, I feel it still has a lot of relevance to todays situation.
We need more money into autism research but into the RIGHT research – how to support us – not how to cure us.
